Balyana Accommodation

Kierren Ferris, resident at BalyanaSupported accommodation and housing options

Looking for a range of supported accommodation and housing options? Balyana is the first place to look. Currently it is home to nearly 90 people with a disability and is situated in picturesque grounds at Clapham in Adelaide.

Balyana offers accommodation in individual rooms or in one of the eight share houses around the property.

  • Individual rooms are partially furnished, each with an ensuite. Meals are provided in a communal dining room.
  • You could opt to live one of Balyana's transitional houses, learning to become more independent and acquire the skills and confidence to live in share accommodation.
  • Share houses at Balyana cater for two to six people. Each person has their own room and share the facilities with the other residents, as well as being required to cook meals and complete household tasks on a rotational basis.

Residents who wish to move into accommodation in the community are encouraged to do so and self-development plans can be tailored to individual needs to help make this happen.

Training and assistance is offered as part of the residential service programme. Developmental Care Workers at Balyana support residents with issues such as:

  • Money management/budgeting
  • Home management - cleaning, cooking, washing, etc.
  • Communication
  • Personal presentation
  • Issues relating to interpersonal relationships and sexuality
  • Accessing community based services and activities
  • Shopping
  • Cooking
  • Recreation

Balyana is partially funded by the state Government through the Department for Families and Communities.
