The Bedford Awards Day celebration is the pinnacle event on our calendar. It is a truly special occasion and an important opportunity for public recognition of individuals whose energy, enthusiasm, commitment and care for each other is an inspiration to us all.
On 11 June 2008, we celebrated the achievements of people with a disability at our largest ever Awards Day at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
The event, which attracted more than 1,600 guests, acknowledged and recognised the important contribution people with a disability make to the South Australian community.
This year, people from regional South Australia took part in the ceremony, as a result of Bedford’s recent mergers with disability service providers in Port Pirie, Kadina, Wallaroo, Port Lincoln and Mount Gambier.
Special guests included His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce, AC CSC RANR, Governor of South Australia and the Hon Bill Shorten MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services.
For the 40th year in succession, our great friends at Holden were our major sponsor. This is a remarkable commitment by the State’s largest employer to Bedford and people with a disability in South Australia.
