Andrew Friebe

Andrew FriebeAt Smallacombe Real Estate we're very aware of our social responsibility and try to give as much back to the community as much as possible. On a personal note, I have a sister who has a disability and as a family we often struggle for accommodation and respite care. Bedford are a perfect partner with Smallacombe and I'm so excited to be part of this event.

I’m passionate about cycling - I only started about two years ago but it’s become a big part of my life. I was tendering for work with one of the riders in our group and he said I could have the job if I rode to Mount Lofty with him! I rode up there, got the job and never looked back! This ride will definitely be my biggest challenge so far... bring on Pedal for a Purpose- I can’t wait!

Chas Bevans

Chas Bevans low resTaking part in Pedal for a Purpose seemed like a great opportunity to help raise money for people with disability or disadvantage – it’s also a huge personal challenge. I’ve been riding on and off since high school - I usually ride around nine hours a week, but I’m slowly increasing the number of kilometres and am extending my Saturday morning rides. The longest ride I’ve  done so far was the Tour Down Under Challenge event in 2009 – that seems like ages ago now – so I’m really excited about Pedal for a Purpose.

Sarah McEachern

Sarah McEachernMy uncle has been a Bedford resident for many years, so I’ve seen firsthand how important it is that Bedford are able to continue providing opportunities for people with disability in our community. I love cycling so I could hardly say no to Pedal for a Purpose!

Getting ready for this epic journey will definitely be a good excuse to spend more time training in the beautiful Adelaide Hills.

Peter Letic

Peter Letic low resPedal for a Purpose is a once in a lifetime experience! I train for up to ten hours a week, so I’m confident I’ll last the distance. However, the longest ride I’ve previously participated in was 210km, so this ride will definitely test my fitness.

I have two young children who I’ll really miss whilst I’m away – but I’ll be calling them from every stop to let them know our progress.

Mark Fidyka

Mark Fidyka low resBedford does tremendous work for people with disability and really values human dignity. It’s a privilege to contribute to the Bedford cause in a practical way.

I train for about eight hours each week, but I’m increasing this significantly to ensure my fitness and endurance will last the test! I’ve only been riding for two years and this is my first long distance ride – bring it on!

Tim Kerber

Tim Kerber low resPedal for a Purpose is a great personal challenge that direct benefits people less fortunate than myself. I’m lucky enough to ride everyday for work – I’m a Police Officer attached to Adelaide Bicycle Patrols, but I’ll be adding extra training to get ready for the event.  I’ve actually only recently joined the road riding epidemic – I’ve moved to the city and been able to sell my car, so my bike is now my main mode of transport. It’s something I’ve always wanted to be able to do.

Dave Healey

Dave Healey low resAndrew Friebe and I regularly ride together – when he told me about Pedal for a Purpose, I jumped at the chance of taking part in this once in a lifetime event – the ultimate ‘road trip.’ My longest ride to date in a single day is 210km. I currently train about 10-16 hours per week, but will be increasing the distance of my Saturday ride to make sure my endurance is up to the challenge! I’ll be taking part in Pedal for a Purpose with Isabella – my Italian lover! (Isabella is my Pinarello Prince with Campagnolo Super Record Components and Fulcrum Racing Zero wheels – my 40th birthday present from my wife and kids).

Daniel Wray

Daniel WrayI've been riding from an early age and taking part in the 'Ride Like Crazy' rides and Mutual Community events as part of the Tour Down Under, but I've never taken part in an event anywhere near as big as Pedal for a Purpose. Saying goodbye to my wife Melissa and our one year old, Mitchell, for a week will be tough but I can't wait - the Great Ocean Road in summer is going to be stunning.

Chris Mavrangelos

Chris MavrangelosI’ve always wanted to take part in a long distance challenge ride and when I found out Pedal for a Purpose supports a great local charity, I jumped at the chance. I’ve been cycling about eight years and I currently train about six to eight hours a week, but need to increase my mileage before January!

I’m looking forward to riding my Cervelo R3 along the Great Ocean Road – I was given the bike for my 40th birthday and it’s my pride and joy.

Mike Carter

Mike Carter low resPeople ask me why I signed up to cycle 1,079 kilometres – I tell them I’ve always been a little excessive. I’ve been riding nearly three years but have only taken part in long distance day rides so far, so I’ll be investing in plenty of anti-chaffing products! Bedford are an important part of the SA community and I’m proud to be part of the Pedal for a Purpose team.

Justin Poole

Taking part in Pedal for a Purpose is a great opportunity to combine a sport that I enjoy whilst supporting a great cause.. I’ve taken part in one day long distance rides before, such as Community Challenge and Coast to Coast, but never anything like this. I ride my Look 555 three or four times a week, but will be increasing my training to meet such a challenging distance.

Matt Taylor

I decided to become part of Pedal for a Purpose because it feels really good helping people with disability or disadvantage. Bedford provide opportunities to people who may normally experience challenges finding employment or training. I really believe growth and development is so important for everyone. Pedal for a Purpose is also a huge personal challenge – Melbourne to Adelaide is a big ride!

I’ve been riding for about ten years now – it keeps me fit and the social atmosphere is fantastic. I currently train about 150km’s a week, but aim to increase that to 300km’s as the event approaches. I’m eating healthier too, so I might even lose a few kilos!
