Bedford Future Pathway Update - 17 November 2025

Since 1998, Bedford’s garden maintenance business, APG has cared for 14 kilometres of the River Torrens Linear Park within the Campbelltown City Council area. For over 27 years, APG's partnership with the Council has been built on trust, consistency and a shared vision of nurturing green spaces for the benefit of the entire community.

This long-standing partnership also underscores APG’s strong commitment to quality horticultural maintenance and outstanding service standards.

A Vital Green Corridor

The River Torrens Linear Park is far more than a walking trail or cycling path, it stands as one of South Australia’s most important urban green corridors, offering a continuous stretch of natural beauty,  recreational spaces and environmental biodiversity. APG’s dedicated team is entrusted with the primary care and day-to-day maintenance of this vital parkland. As urban development continues to expand, preserving and managing this space has become essential to protecting the environment and supporting the health and wellbeing of local communities. APG fulfils this responsibility with exceptional care, ensuring that the park’s natural beauty is preserved year-round while remaining accessible and welcoming to residents, visitors, and native wildlife.

Delivering Expert Horticultural Services with Care

Over the years, APG has consistently delivered a comprehensive range of horticultural and environmental services throughout the Linear Park precinct. These services include large-scale grass cutting and mowing, targeted weed control and management of invasive pests, revegetation using native plantings, and regular mulching, pruning, and grounds maintenance. Each task is carried out with precision and care by a dedicated team who take genuine pride in their work.

“The team takes pride in their work and treats the area like it’s their own backyard. This strong sense of ownership and attention to detail ensures that Linear Park remains safe, well-maintained and welcoming for the entire community to enjoy."

— Matthew, APG Supervisor

Equipment and Efficiency

Supporting the high standards of APG’s horticultural services is a commitment to using the right equipment. One of the key tools used to maintain Linear Park is the Toro 4000 wide-area mower, a 11-foot-wide ride-on mower designed to maximise efficiency while maintaining turf health. This wide-area mower has three separate decks, two of which can be raised to navigate tight areas. The mower offers flexibility and speed, enabling the team to cover large areas in less time without compromising the quality of the cut. It has zero-turn technology also ensures minimal disruption to the grass and surrounding terrain. This advanced equipment allows APG to meet demanding maintenance schedules while delivering the high-quality results expected by both the council and community.

Driving Impact with Inclusive Employment

Beyond its horticultural capabilities, what truly sets APG apart is its commitment to inclusive employment. As one of Bedford’s employment pathways, APG provides supported job opportunities for people with disability, and meaningful, skill-building work in a professional environment.

The Linear Park project stands as a powerful example of the value and capability of an inclusive workforce. Each task carried out along the park reflects APG’s belief that workplace diversity not only enriches team culture but also enhances community outcomes.

For many of our supported employees, projects like this are more than a job, they are opportunities to grow, connect with nature, and contribute to something greater.

Team member Andrew reflects on his experience: “It’s great working outdoors, using ride-on mowers and enjoying the wildlife and the scenery.”
