Since starting her journey with Bedford in 2012, Mikayla has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, a commitment to continuous learning, and a dedicated approach to contributing positively within her team.

From operating sewing machines and folding garments with precision, to exploring arts, crafts and cooking, Mikayla has broadened her skill set in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Bedford has provided Mikayla with more than just a place of employment. It is a space where she feels supported, valued and motivated to grow both personally and professionally. In 2021, her experience was enriched when she expanded her involvement by joining Bedford’s Learning and Experiences program alongside her role in Embroidery, opening new avenues for skill-building and engagement.
This dual approach has given her the chance to expand her skills, engage in hands-on learning and build meaningful relationships. Mikayla thrives when she is busy, engaged, and surrounded by supportive people, which Bedford consistently provides and fosters.
“I like coming to Bedford as I enjoy seeing everyone, having a chat, and working together. It is a nice place to be. I also take pride in keeping my area tidy and making sure my surroundings are safe.”
Building Confidence Through Embroidery
Mikayla plays an integral role in Bedford’s Embroidery Services, where she contributes to the production of high-quality items for a diverse range of clients. Her responsibilities include operating both overlocker and sewing machines to assemble filter pads, as well as folding and packing a variety of products such as hats, backpacks, towels, jackets and other garments.
Her attention to detail and precision make her a natural fit for the job, but it is her passion and dedication that truly stand out. Each item Mikayla contributes to is crafted with care and pride, and her contribution is consistently recognised by her team.
“Mikayla brings great energy to the team and takes pride in everything she does. She is always open to learning something new. She’s focused, reliable and genuinely enjoys what she does, which can be seen in her work every day.”
Crafting Confidence Through Learning
In addition to her work in Embroidery, Mikayla has fully embraced the diverse opportunities offered through Bedford’s Learning and Experiences program.
Mikayla has explanded her sewing skills, learning how to make stuffed bears and rabbits and has even picked up valuable life skills in the kitchen, developing a passion for cooking. These experiences have given her a deep sense of accomplishment.
“Sewing is one of my favourite things,” Mikayla shares. “It’s fun, peaceful and I feel proud when I finish something I’ve worked hard on. I’ve also learned how to cook, which I really enjoy.”
People, Purpose and Pride
For Mikayla, the most rewarding part of her experience at Bedford is the strong sense of community. She loves the social connection, positive atmosphere and the sense of belonging that Bedford offers.
“I like talking to people and being part of the team. Everyone is nice, and it makes the day go quickly when you’re working and having fun.”
Whether she is working with embroidery materials, folding T-shirts, cooking a new recipe, or helping ensure the workspace is clean and safe, Mikayla brings her enthusiastic attitude to every task she does.
