Bedford Future Pathway Update - 17 November 2025

At Bedford, we believe that sustainability and inclusion are more than just values, they are at the core of everything we do. Our innovative recycling enterprises are a clear expression of this commitment, driving environmental impact while creating meaningful opportunities for people with disability.

Through Electronic Recycling Australia and Bounce Back Mattress Recycling, which specialise in e-waste and mattress recycling respectively, we are leading the way in delivering recycling solutions that reduce waste, support the circular economy and create meaningful, long-term employment opportunities for people with disability.

By aligning environmental responsibility with social purpose, we are turning everyday waste into real-world opportunity with these social enterprises, building a cleaner, more inclusive future for South Australians, one recycled item at a time.

Both recyclers are located at our Ottoway recycling hub, 301 Grand Junction Road (corner of Duncan Court).

Electronic Recycling Australia : Powering Environmental and Social Impact

For businesses, circular economy strategies are becoming essential, not just to meet compliance and ESG expectations, but to unlock new forms of value in recovery, reuse and responsible resource management. We are here to support businesses’ endeavours to achieve this.

Electronic Recycling Australia also has a data destruction service which ensures all data such as passwords and photos are permanently erased from your unwanted electronics. (Note - there is a cost for this service but not for recycling your electronics. Contact us for more details).

To complete the circular economy offering, we provide quality cost-effective refurbished electronics, including laptops and tablets via our online store, Facebook Marketplace and pick up at the Ottoway hub.

Electronic Recycling Australia employs people with disability and other barriers to employment, creating significant social impact in addition to environmental impact.

Bounce Back Mattress Recycling : Turning Mattress Waste into Opportunity and Impact

Mattress Recycling offers more than just waste management; it delivers sustainable solutions that breathe new life into used mattresses while creating meaningful employment opportunities. Each mattress that comes through out Ottoway facility is manually disassembled, allowing us to recover between 95% and 98% of its materials, including steel, foam and fabric. This means the mattresses are completely disassembled, and the individual components are recovered, to go on to a secondary process such as creating new products.

For example, timber from your bed ensemble is turned into compost and the textiles and latex will be sent to waste to energy, where they will be used to convert into electricity for all! This keeps it out of landfill and creates input into the circular economy.

It’s also important to note that Bounce Back is the only recycler in South Australia who is recovering all of the steel and all of the foam in mattresses, to be turned into new product.

Furthermore, mattresses take up significant landfill space and contain materials that can be harmful. There are many contaminants in manufactured materials which are used to cover pocket or box spring mattresses. Along with synthetic latex and other textiles, they produce hazardous chemicals if they go to landfill, where they ultimately make their way into the water table and, eventually, our drinking water and produce. In addition to environmental impact, there is the social impact in that for every 50 mattresses recycled, a full day of work for a person with disability or other barriers to employment is generated.

It costs $40 to recycle your mattress with Bounce Back and that’s a flat rate, regardless of mattress size or composition. Check around – that’s a very competitive price and it includes incredible social impact!
